Helper agreement
Last updated 22 October 2026. Version 2026-10-22.6.
This agreement is for people who want to earn money as a Helper on Help'd. You must accept it before you can go online and take jobs. Please read it carefully. It sits alongside our Terms of use and Privacy policy, which also apply to you.
Help'd is operated by Shadi David Alexander t/as Help'd Australia, ABN 95 696 795 435, of Victoria, Australia ("Help'd", "we", "us"). "You" means the person accepting this agreement as a Helper.
In short: you run your own small business with your own ABN. You are an independent contractor, not an employee of Help'd. Each job is a contract between you and the Customer. Help'd provides the app that connects you, and keeps a service fee for doing so.
1. You are an independent contractor
- You use Help'd as an independent contractor running your own business. Nothing in this agreement, or in how you use Help'd, makes you an employee, worker, partner, joint venturer or agent of Help'd, and Help'd is not your employer.
- Each job is a contract between you and the Customer for a result: the job described, for the price agreed. Help'd is not a party to that contract and does not buy your labour. Help'd provides you with access to the app, and you pay Help'd a service fee for each completed job.
- You decide whether to use Help'd at all, when you go online, which jobs you accept and which you pass on, and how you do the work. Help'd does not set working hours, rosters, uniforms or a minimum number of jobs, and does not supervise or direct how you do a job.
- You supply your own tools, equipment, vehicle, phone and data, and you pay your own business costs.
- You are free to work for anyone else, including other platforms and your own customers, at the same time as using Help'd.
- The verified Helper who accepts a job must attend it, because the Customer is relying on the identity check and rating they can see. You may bring your own offsider to assist you, at your own cost, if you tell the Customer in the job chat before the job starts. You stay fully responsible for their work, safety, conduct, pay, tax and insurance.
- You must not tell anyone that you are employed by, or speak for, Help'd.
2. You need your own ABN
- You must hold your own active Australian Business Number (ABN) to be a Helper, and you must enter it, and your home address, in the app before you can go online. If you trade through your own company or trust, the ABN must belong to that business and you must be authorised to act for it.
- You promise that the ABN you give us is yours, is active and is correct. You must update it in the app straight away if it changes, and tell us if it is cancelled. You must stop taking jobs while you do not have an active ABN.
- We may check your ABN on the public ABN Lookup at any time, and we may pause your Helper account if it is missing, inactive or does not match your details.
- If you do not have an ABN yet, you can apply for free at abr.gov.au. Holding an ABN means you are carrying on a business. It is your responsibility to make sure you are entitled to one.
2A. Your photo and spot checks
- Before you can go online, you must add a clear, recent photo of your face, taken live with your phone's camera. Your Customer sees it when you accept their job, so they know who is coming.
- Now and then when you go online, we will ask for a quick selfie spot check with a simple action, such as a thumbs up. You must take it yourself, live, at that moment.
- Your Help'd account is personal to you. You must never let anyone else use it, log in as you, or do a job in your place (your own offsider may help you, as set out in section 1, but you must attend). Letting someone else use your account is a serious breach of this agreement, and we will pause or close your account.
- A person at Help'd checks photos and spot checks by eye. If a photo or spot check does not match, new jobs are paused while we look into it. You can contact us to explain, and we will tell you the outcome and why.
- You agree to Help'd collecting and using your photo and spot check selfies for these purposes, as explained in the Privacy policy.
3. Tax, GST and super
- You are responsible for your own income tax, GST, superannuation, insurance and record keeping. Help'd does not withhold tax from your payouts and does not pay superannuation for you.
- If your business turnover reaches the GST registration threshold (currently $75,000 a year), you must register for GST and tell us. You are responsible for any GST on the services you provide.
- Reporting to the ATO: under the Sharing Economy Reporting Regime, Help'd must report information about Helpers and the payments they receive through Help'd to the Australian Taxation Office twice a year. This can include your name, date of birth, address, email, phone number, ABN, bank account details, and the amounts paid to you and fees charged. You agree to give us (or Stripe, for us) accurate information for this purpose.
- Please get advice from an accountant or the ATO if you are unsure about your tax obligations.
4. Licences, checks and qualifications
- You must hold every licence, registration, permit, check and qualification that the law requires for any job you accept. In Victoria, electrical work, plumbing, gas fitting, drainage, asbestos removal and structural building work (such as demolition, re-stumping and re-blocking) must only be done by people who are licensed or registered for that work, whatever the job is worth. Other building work over $10,000 (including materials) also needs a registered builder.
- Help'd does not offer plumbing, gas fitting, electrical work or appliance repairs. Never do that work through Help'd, even if a Customer asks, and even if you hold a licence. If a job turns out to need it, you may leave the job with no charge to the Customer and nothing counting against you.
- Help me move jobs are lifting, carrying, packing and loading only. Do not transport a Customer's belongings in your own vehicle as part of a Help'd job.
- You must give true licence numbers, ID and details, and tell us straight away if a licence expires or is suspended, cancelled or restricted.
- If a job needs a Working with Children Check or any other check, you must hold it before you accept the job.
- If a job turns out to need a licence you do not hold, or is unsafe, stop and tell the Customer in the job chat. You can leave the job without it counting against you.
5. Insurance
- Gardening and lawn mowing, and Handyman jobs: you must hold your own current public liability insurance of at least $10 million, in your name or your ABN's name, before you can take these jobs. Send your certificate of currency in the app (Helper setup). A person at Help'd checks it. Keep it current, and tell us straight away if it ends, changes or is cancelled. These job types switch off automatically when your policy expires. Help'd will try to remind you in the app 30 days before it ends, but keeping your insurance current is your responsibility.
- You must not accept a Gardening and lawn mowing, or Handyman job unless your insurance is current and covers that work. If you do, you are responsible for any loss that your insurance would have covered.
- All other job types: For the other job types, Help'd intends to arrange public liability insurance that covers Helpers while they do those jobs. Any such cover is subject to the insurer's terms, conditions, limits and exclusions, and starts only when Help'd confirms in the app that it is in place. Until then, no Help'd insurance applies to any job.
- Any Help'd insurance is not workers' compensation, income protection or personal accident cover, and does not cover your own injury, your tools or vehicle, loss of income, or anything done on purpose, illegally, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or outside the job described in the app. You remain responsible for your work and for doing it safely and to a proper standard.
- You must hold any other insurance the law requires for the work you do. We recommend personal accident or income protection insurance.
6. Doing the job well and safely
- Turn up on time, or tell the Customer early in the chat if you will be late.
- Work safely and lawfully. You are responsible for your own health and safety and that of anyone working with you, and for using proper equipment and safety gear. Nothing in this agreement limits anyone's duties under work health and safety laws.
- Ask the Customer for their 4 digit start code when you arrive, and only start work once you have it.
- Do the job you agreed to, for the price you agreed to. Agree any change in the app (see Price changes below).
- Be polite and respectful. No harassment, discrimination, threats, intoxication on the job, or unwanted contact.
- Stop and leave if you feel unsafe. In an emergency call 000.
7. Fees, Rewards and payouts
Help'd keeps a service fee from the job price, based on your level in Help'd Rewards. There are three levels: Starter 18 percent (from your first job), Silver 15 percent (after 15 completed jobs) and Gold 12 percent (after 50 completed jobs). To reach or keep Gold, once you have 5 ratings your average must stay at 4.5 or higher. The fee for a job is shown to you before you accept it and is fixed for that job. With a referral code your fee is halved (see section 11).
Payment collection: when you accept a job, you appoint Help'd as your limited payment collection agent for that job. This means Help'd (through Stripe) collects the job price from the Customer for you, keeps Help'd's service fee, and pays you the rest. When the Customer pays through Help'd, the Customer has paid you for that job.
Payouts are made through Stripe after a job is marked complete. The time it takes depends on Stripe and your bank. You need to finish Stripe's identity and bank setup, and accept Stripe's terms, to be paid. We may hold a payout while we look into a genuine report of fraud, a safety issue or a payment dispute, and we will tell you why. Levels are not money and have no cash value. Jobs that are not genuine do not count, and payments for them may be reversed.
In the free test version of Help'd, no real payments are taken or paid out.
8. Helper standards, pauses and appeals
To keep Help'd great for every Customer, Helpers must keep both their rating and their acceptance rate at 80% or higher. Your rating is your average stars out of 5 (80% is 4.0 stars). Your acceptance rate is the share of the jobs you answered that you accepted rather than passed. These count once you have at least 5 ratings and 10 answered jobs. If either falls under 80%, your Help'd Pro account is paused for 6 months, with no new jobs offered. Jobs you already finished are paid as normal. After 6 months we invite you back with a fresh start. Leaving a job after a price disagreement, or because it needs a licence you do not hold or is unsafe, does not count against your acceptance rate.
The pause is applied automatically by the app when the numbers fall under 80%. Your right to appeal: if you are paused, you can appeal in the app. Open the pause notice and tap Appeal. Tell us in your own words why you think the pause is wrong. You will get a reference code (it looks like AP-ABC123). A person at Help'd, not software, reads every appeal and replies in the app, normally within 14 days. We may lift the pause, shorten it, or keep it, and we will tell you why. You can send one appeal for each pause.
This does not take away any rights you have under the law, including any right to apply to the Fair Work Commission or a court where that applies. Time limits for those can be short (for example 21 days in some cases), so check early.
9. Live location and arrival alerts
For safety and trust, a Helper's live location is shown to their Customer on a map from when the job is accepted until the Helper arrives. Helpers agree to share it before they go online. Customers agree before they see it, and receive alerts when their Helper is nearby. Location is only used while the app is open and is never sold. See the Privacy policy.
10. Price changes during a job
Once a Helper has arrived, either the Customer or the Helper may ask to change the job price, with a clear, specific explanation of what changed and why (30 to 400 characters). The price only changes if the other person approves in the app. Help'd never changes a price on its own. A new price can be no less than $20 and no more than $5,000. There is no other limit on a rise as long as it is documented on both sides. If a new price is more than 70% above the original price, the person who asked gets a 6 digit safety code and must give it to the other person, in person or by phone, who types it into the app to approve. Both of you can add up to 5 photos at a time in the job chat to show why a price is changing. Chat messages and photos cannot be edited or deleted. A job can have up to three price requests, so both sides have up to three chances to agree. Once a request is approved the price is agreed and final. A request that is declined, taken back or not answered within 10 minutes leaves the price unchanged. If the price is not agreed, the Helper may leave the job with no charge to the Customer and nothing counting against the Helper. Every request, explanation, answer, safety code check and chat photo is saved and shown on the final job summary. Help'd's service fee is worked out on the final approved price.
11. Help'd Referral Program
The referral code is the only discount on Help'd. If you redeem a referral code, you get a flat 50% off Help'd's fee on every job: your fee is half of your level fee, which is 9 percent at Starter, 7.5 percent at Silver and 6 percent at Gold. You keep climbing the levels as normal.
One code per job: if both the Customer and the Helper have a referral code on the same job, only the Customer's code is used on that job and you pay your normal level fee. Your fee for every job is shown before you accept it. A code is personal to you, is entered once, has no cash value and cannot be transferred. Help'd may stop a code being redeemed by new people at any time; people who already redeemed it keep their discount unless they misuse it.
12. Keep jobs and payments in Help'd
Do not take payment outside the app for a job you found through Help'd, and do not ask a Customer to move a job outside the app to avoid the fee. This protects both of you, because the app keeps a record of the job, the price and the chat.
13. Customer information and confidentiality
You will see a Customer's first name, job address, job details and photos. You must handle this information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) as if it applied to you. Use it only to do that job. Do not copy, keep, share, post online or sell it, do not take photos or recordings of a Customer or their home except to show the work in the job chat, and do not contact the Customer afterwards except about that job.
14. Responsibility for loss and damage
- You are responsible for loss, damage or injury caused by your acts or omissions (or those of your offsider) while doing a job, including damage to a Customer's property.
- You agree to cover Help'd for any claim, loss or cost (including reasonable legal costs) that Help'd suffers because of your breach of this agreement, your negligence, your breach of the law, or a claim by a Customer or anyone else about your work. This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by Help'd's own breach, negligence or misconduct.
- Help'd provides the app as is and does not promise that you will receive any number of jobs or any level of income, or that the app will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, Help'd is not liable to you for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, income or opportunity, and Help'd's total liability to you under this agreement is limited to the service fees you paid Help'd in the 12 months before the claim. These limits do not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, or personal injury caused by Help'd's negligence, or to any right that the law says cannot be limited.
15. Holds, suspension and ending this agreement
- You can stop using Help'd at any time by going offline, and you can end this agreement by deleting your account in Settings. Please finish or cancel any job you have accepted first.
- We may hold or suspend your Helper account straight away where we reasonably believe there is a risk to someone's safety, fraud, a serious breach of this agreement or the law, or that your ABN, ID or licence details are false or no longer valid. Where practical, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
- For other breaches, we will normally warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem before we suspend or end your access.
- We may end this agreement for any reason with 30 days' notice in the app or by email.
- Sections 3, 12, 13, 14 and 16 continue after this agreement ends.
16. Complaints and disputes
If you have a complaint or a dispute with Help'd, email support@gethelpd.com.au first and we will try to resolve it within 14 days. If we cannot, either of us may suggest mediation through the Victorian Small Business Commission or a similar service before going to court. This does not stop anyone seeking urgent help from a court, or using any right under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) or other laws. If you have a dispute with a Customer, try to resolve it in good faith in the job chat, then contact us if you cannot.
17. Changes to this agreement
We may update this agreement. For a change that disadvantages you, we will give you at least 14 days' notice in the app or by email, unless the change is needed sooner to comply with the law or to keep people safe. You will be asked to accept the new version before you can go online again. If you do not agree, you can stop using Help'd and delete your account at any time.
18. General
- This agreement, the Terms of use and the Privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and Help'd about being a Helper.
- If any part of this agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part is read down or removed and the rest stays in force.
- If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- You may not transfer this agreement to anyone else. We may transfer it to a business that takes over Help'd, and we will tell you if that happens.
- This agreement is governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. You and Help'd agree to the courts of Victoria, and courts that can hear appeals from them.
- We may send you notices in the app or to the email address on your account.
